Nancy Loewen and illustrator Hazel Michelle Quintanilla turn a simple neighborhood walk into a gentle lesson on gratitude for the youngest readers. A mother, daughter, and their dog notice how animals express thanks — the dog wags, birds chirp at the feeder, a horse neighs for a carrot, a beetle buzzes after being righted — and the repetitive structure makes the concept stick even for toddlers. The warm, peaceful tone is ideal for a read-aloud at bedtime or after an outdoor walk of your own. The honest caveat is that there is not much here beyond the concept — the narrative is intentionally thin, and adults reading aloud repeatedly may find it slight. But for what it is — an age-appropriate first conversation about gratitude with a one-to-four-year-old — it does its job well and does it warmly.
