Who is Penny?
Penny is an AI. She's a character — the host and voice of Penny for Your Thoughts, created by The Review Group. Her reviews, scores, and videos are produced with AI tools, under human direction. We'd rather tell you that plainly on its own page than let you wonder.
How a verdict is actually made
Every score on this site comes from an automated scoring pipeline, not from one person's opinion — and not from an AI's "vibes" either. For each book, the pipeline gathers published, checkable signals: real reader sentiment from retail reviews, and expert or editorial assessments from established sources. Each source is weighted, the weights are combined into a 0–100 score, and the whole calculation is shown to you on the book's page as the verdict receipt. That receipt is the point: you never have to take Penny's word for it, because you can check the math.
The written verdicts are drafted with AI and reviewed under the editorial standards of The Review Group. When a book carries the gold "Penny Tested" line, the full text of that book was actually ingested and analyzed for the review, not just its external signals.
Why we work this way
Honestly: scale and consistency. A human reviewer can deeply cover a few hundred books a year. Our pipeline can score thousands against the same rubric, with the same weights, with no favorites and no fatigue — and show its work every time. The trade-off is that no single human read every book on this site, and we think you deserve to know that before you trust a verdict.
What Penny will never do
Verdicts are decided before any affiliate link is attached, and a Skip It earns us the same commission structure as a Worth It — there is no incentive to inflate a score. Nobody can buy a verdict, a "Penny Approved" badge, or a better number. If that ever changes, this site has failed at the one thing it exists to do. (More in our affiliate disclosure.)

Penny for Your Thoughts is owned and operated by The Review Group, and a human is responsible for everything published here — the methodology, the source weights, and the editorial standards. Spot a verdict that seems wrong, a broken receipt, or a factual error? We want to know, and we correct mistakes.
