Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking Glass

Lewis Carroll Β· 2021
77/100
πŸ‘ Worth It

Lewis Carroll's two Victorian masterpieces belong on every shelf, and a combined edition is the smartest way to have them. Wonderland gives us the rabbit hole, the Mad Hatter, and the tyrannical Queen of Hearts; Looking Glass trades the rabbit hole for a mirror and a chess-board landscape populated by Humpty Dumpty and the Red Queen. What binds them is Carroll's extraordinary wordplay, his logical nonsense, and a satirical wit that rewards adult readers as richly as it delights children. The 2021 MinaLima illustrated edition is genuinely spectacular if you can find it. One caveat: Victorian prose and layered satirical humor can outpace younger independent readers, so a parent or teacher reading alongside adds a lot. Essentially family-safe β€” the Queen's beheading threats are pure comic bluster.
