The three voices are distinct and the magical warfare sequences move at a genuinely exciting pace. Aryan earned a David Gemmell Award shortlist on this debut, which reflects real accomplishment. The honest caveat is that the world-building feels somewhat generic for the epic fantasy shelf, and the political plotting does not develop the ambition the premise suggests. Readers who prioritise action and character dynamics over intricate world-building will find this satisfying; those seeking the density of the subgenre's best may want to temper expectations.
