Becoming a Woman of Strength
Ruth Haley Barton, now a widely respected voice in Christian spiritual formation, wrote this early work in 1994 to walk evangelical women through fourteen of life's persistent challenges β vocation, marriage, relationships with men, keeping faith at the center. It's scripture-grounded and practical, drawing on both theological depth and honest personal experience. The tone is thoughtful rather than prescriptive, making it a natural fit for women's Bible study groups. The honest caveat is that the book is now over thirty years old, and some cultural touchpoints will feel like they belong to another era. There's also no meaningful secular critical reception to point to. For women already in evangelical circles, though, it holds up as a sincere and substantive guide.
