👍 Worth It
Kent Haruf's prose is one of a kind — spare and unhurried in a way that makes the weight of dying feel genuinely sacred rather than sentimental. Dad Lewis's final months in Holt are rendered with the kind of quiet human dignity that earns the Folio Prize shortlist. A couple of the parallel subplots don't quite match the main story's depth, but the novel as a whole is the kind of book that stays with you long after you've finished it.
