Betty wakes up from a mastectomy to find her breast gone, her partner gone, and her job gone — and then the story takes a wild turn into surreal comedy as she carries the removed breast in a gift box and ultimately finds her footing in a burlesque troupe that celebrates every body. This nearly wordless French graphic novel by Cazot and illustrator Julie Rocheleau pulls off something genuinely difficult: honoring real grief while finding buoyant, absurdist humor in the aftermath. Rocheleau's award-winning art does the heavy emotional lifting. The honest caveat is that this is firmly adult content — mature themes, nudity in a burlesque setting, and body-focused imagery throughout make it inappropriate for children or family reading, and faith-friendly readers with modesty convictions should know what they're stepping into. For its intended adult audience, it's a distinctive and affecting work.
