Blood of Empire

Brian McClellan closes out the Gods of Blood and Powder trilogy with a slow-burn buildup that delivers on its ensemble cast and large-scale flintlock-fantasy action in the final act. Kirkus and Novel Notions both praised the satisfying character arcs and vivid worldbuilding in this Powder Mage universe entry. The slow pacing puts the major action in roughly the last fifteen percent of the book, and some reviewers found the final villain confrontation rushed and reliant on Deus ex Machina. This is a solid, absorbing conclusion for adult epic fantasy fans who have followed the series, but it is not a family or general-audience title.
