Blood of the Cosmos

The second book in Anderson's Saga of Shadows trilogy picks up right where the first left off — humans and Ildirans scrambling to hold back the Shana Rei, shadow creatures of pure chaos, while a darker side of the alien Gardeners threatens the world-tree forests central to Ildiran life. If you loved the Saga of Seven Suns, this delivers more of what made that series work: breakneck pacing, dozens of interlocking viewpoints, and a universe stuffed with political intrigue and alien cultures. The honest caveat is that this is a middle book serving a very specific audience — newcomers will be hopelessly lost, and even fans may notice character depth thinned by the enormous cast. But for established readers, it's a worthy continuation worth your time.
