Books of Blood

Clive Barker · 1985
84/100
👍 Worth It

Clive Barker's six-volume Books of Blood is one of the landmark collections in horror literature — Stephen King declared Barker 'the future of horror' upon its release, and Volume 1 won both the British Fantasy Award and the World Fantasy Award. The range across the stories is extraordinary: gothic, splatterpunk, Lovecraftian, dark comedy, and everything between. Tales like 'The Midnight Meat Train' and 'In the Hills, the Cities' expanded what horror fiction could do. The honest caveat is equally plain: this collection contains extreme graphic violence, sexual content, body horror, and pervasive occult imagery. It is adult horror at its most intense and is completely unsuitable for family, faith-conscious, or younger readers. For adult horror readers who can handle the material, it is genuinely essential.
