Megan E. O'Keefe closes the Protectorate Trilogy with Commander Sanda Greeve facing down Rainier, an immortal alien intelligence with effectively limitless resources, in a high-stakes space opera finale. O'Keefe deepens the series' emotional core here β€” trauma and its aftermath get more space than in the preceding volumes, which distinguishes this from standard action-driven conclusions. The Quill to Live called it 'a ferociously good time,' and most SF reviewers agreed it delivers a satisfying earned close. The caveats are the usual third-volume ones: you cannot jump in here, Velocity Weapon and Chaos Vector are prerequisites. The stakes also feel inflated in the way final-book stakes tend to, and the violence is significant throughout. For readers who've made the journey, though, this is a strong finish to a trilogy with a genuinely memorable protagonist.
