Deer Woman
This comics anthology channels the traditional Indigenous story of Deer Woman — a supernatural figure who punishes predatory men — into a collection of survival and empowerment stories by Native women writers and artists including Rebecca Roanhorse and Darcie Little Badger. The creative voices are diverse and the cultural grounding gives the work real depth and urgency. The subject matter is the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis, and the anthology does not look away. That is exactly its point and its strength. Parents and faith families should know clearly: this book contains violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking depicted thematically, and the imagery can be disturbing. It is for mature adults only and is not suitable for family or general audiences.
