Dhiammara

Dhiammara closes out Maggie Furey's four-book Artefacts of Power arc, and it earns its place as a satisfying series conclusion. Aurian returns to a Nexis ten years into its own future, searching for her soulmate and child while confronting the villain Eliseth and the deadly Phaerie — Furey is willing to kill major characters and maintain real stakes, which separates this series from safer 1990s fantasy. The world-building is layered and the female protagonist was ahead of the curve for the era. The caveats are significant: you cannot start here — the prior three volumes are essential — the pace sprawls across a large cast, and the dark magic and battle violence make this firmly an adult read. Fans who have followed Aurian from book one will find this a worthy ending.
