Disciplines of the Hungry Heart
R. Paul Stevens writes from the rare overlap of rigorous theology and practical daily life, and that combination makes this 1993 guide genuinely distinctive. Drawing on C.S. Lewis, Bonhoeffer, and Nouwen, he makes the case that spiritual disciplines β prayer, Sabbath, vocation β aren't add-ons to ordinary life but the very rhythm of it, woven into all seven days. For adult Christians who feel the gap between Sunday faith and Monday morning, this is exactly the kind of book that helps close it. The caveat is that the explicitly Christian framework is the whole point, so readers outside that tradition won't find much traction, and some cultural references show the 1993 publication date. For the audience it's written for, though, it's theologically honest and practically useful.
