R. R. Pinger built a solid reputation in community health education through his widely adopted Introduction to Community Health textbook, and this companion volume follows the same public-health framework — covering drug classifications, physiological effects, social context, and policy. Written for undergraduate students, it's clinical and educational in tone, not sensational. The problem is currency: a 1997 college textbook on drugs is a significant ask in an era defined by opioid crisis, fentanyl, and cannabis legalization. No independent reviews of this specific edition could be located to assess how well it held up even at publication. Worth picking up only if you specifically need the historical policy framing; for current coursework, a more recent edition or title is strongly advisable.
