LaHaye pairs a laser-weapon inventor with end-times prophecy and government intrigue, and the ideas are big even if the opening takes its time getting going. The dialogue stays clean, but characters lean more functional than fully human, a familiar trade-off in this genre. Fine if you're already a prophecy-thriller fan; not the book to start with otherwise.
