Eight Steps to Happiness
Geshe Kelsang Gyatso's commentary on an ancient Tibetan text lays out a straightforward argument: unhappiness starts with self-obsession, and the remedy is learning to genuinely cherish others. The eight steps build on that idea with clear meditation instructions, guidance on cultivating patience, and a sustained focus on loving kindness that reads as genuinely warm rather than preachy. The tone is calm and the ethics β kindness, compassion, patience β are ones most readers can get behind regardless of their background. That said, this is Kadampa Buddhist doctrine all the way through, and concepts like emptiness and karma sit at the center of it. Readers without some Buddhist background may find the framework unfamiliar. A meaningful book for the right reader, approached with open eyes.
