El Dorado Illustrated

Orczy's third Scarlet Pimpernel novel is arguably the series at its most emotionally gripping — Percy captured, tortured, and still unbroken makes for genuine suspense that holds up more than a century later. The underlying text is the real asset here; the 2020 illustrated reprint adds limited editorial value and the illustration quality of self-published Amazon editions is unpredictable. Readers who know and love the series will enjoy it; newcomers should start with the original.
