Marc Freedman makes a compelling, well-researched case that the years after traditional retirement can be the most purposeful of a person's life, and he backs it up with real stories and real institutions (including the Encore Fellowships he founded). The Library Journal gave it a starred review for good reason. The honest caveat is that the optimistic framing assumes a degree of financial stability that not all readers will have, and some institutional specifics have aged since 2008. Still, a genuinely inspiring read for anyone in mid-life asking what comes next.
