A genuinely interesting angle — how a controlling state shapes or crushes private initiative across centuries of Russian history — but this is a 1983 Princeton academic text, not something you'll find easy to get your hands on or through. It's held up well enough to still get cited by historians decades later, which says something, but it's not built for casual reading.
