FIVE GO TO SMUGGLER'S TOP.

FIVE ON A TREASURE ISLAND ENID. BLYTON Β· 2020
82/100
πŸ‘ Worth It

The fourth Famous Five adventure is one of the stronger entries in the canon, built on an atmosphere that most Blyton books don't match. Smuggler's Top perches above dangerous marshland, secret passages run beneath it, and mysterious signals go out to sea at night β€” it's genuinely eerie in the best children's adventure tradition. George's insistence on hiding Timmy, and Timmy's role in the rescue, give the story its emotional core. The honest limitations: Mr. Lenoir is a dated foreign-villain stereotype, and the resolution leans on Timmy in a way that becomes a series habit. Still, the pacing is tight and the setting memorable. A satisfying pick for ages seven through twelve.
