Finance ✦ Penny’s Take
From Van Eyck to Bruegel
Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, N.Y.) · 1998
80/100
👍 Worth It
This is serious museum scholarship — 102 fully cataloged paintings, ten essays from Met staff experts, 317 illustrations, detailed provenance — and it covers a century of Northern Renaissance painting that any art history library should hold. It is unambiguously a specialist resource and a difficult find outside major libraries, but within its lane it is authoritative and highly regarded. For serious students of Early Netherlandish art, it is genuinely worth acquiring.
