Arthur C. Clarke's only non-science-fiction novel draws directly from his own wartime RAF experience with GCA radar technology, and that firsthand authenticity gives it genuine historical value. Kirkus found moments of real poetry in it. The honest problem is that the dramatic tension is low, the subplots don't develop, and the audience is narrow — primarily WWII and aviation history enthusiasts or Clarke completists. Worth knowing about; not easy to broadly recommend.
