Bob Greene's journal of his daughter's first year is a rare, candid window into new fatherhood — the fear, the sleeplessness, the uncomfortable honesty about not always being ready for the upheaval a baby brings. Phil Donahue called it the most honest account of first-year fatherhood he'd ever read, and that still holds. The author's 2002 personal scandal is unrelated to this book but does shadow the reading experience for many, and some passages show a self-centeredness that hasn't aged particularly well.
