Webb and Schlemmer made a legitimate academic contribution in 2008 by pushing back on the IT-as-commodity assumption for small businesses, and the Routledge imprint confirms it met a real scholarly bar. The problem is that the IT landscape has transformed so completely since then — cloud computing, SaaS, AI tools — that the strategic frameworks here apply to a world that no longer exists. Specialists in SME management history may still find it useful; everyone else should look for current work.
