Berger does what he does best — takes research that lives in academic journals and makes it feel immediately relevant to everyday choices about what to buy, wear, and do. The mechanisms he identifies (imitation, differentiation, optimal distinction) are genuinely useful mental models. It covers well-trodden social psychology territory without breaking much new ground, but the synthesis is clean and the writing is engaging enough that readers who have not already read Cialdini will get real value here.
