👍 Worth It
Maxwell delivers a genuinely fresh angle on an iconic story — placing Jane at the center of her own adventure as a woman of science rather than a damsel — and the African jungle sequences crackle with atmosphere. The slow Cambridge opening and a slightly over-the-top finale keep it from being great, but adventure-romance readers and fans of historical fiction will find real pleasure here. The Burroughs estate authorization gives it an authority most retellings lack.
