Blake delivers what her loyal audience expects: an atmospheric Louisiana bayou setting, a competent professional heroine, and a crime plot that keeps the pages turning. Publishers Weekly called it reliable and that is exactly right β reliable, but not surprising. The DEA-agent-turned-love-interest and drug-trafficking villain are genre-standard, and thirty years on, the formula shows its age. Fine for committed Blake readers; not the place for anyone new to romantic suspense to start.
