Peggy Darty's debut brings faith themes and a Colorado mining-town setting together in a clean, accessible package that delivers exactly what the Serenade/Zondervan imprint promised its readers. As a debut novel the craft is serviceable rather than polished, the critical record is very thin, and the story has not distinguished itself enough within the inspirational romance genre to recommend it over stronger entries. For committed fans of 1980s Christian fiction it is a pleasant period piece; for everyone else there are better starting points.
