Letters on the Education of Children, and on Marriage

John Witherspoon is a genuinely significant historical figure — signer of the Declaration, Princeton president, major voice in early American Presbyterianism — and reading his actual words on education and marriage is a legitimate scholarly exercise. As practical advice, though, the 18th-century gender norms and discipline framework are products of another world entirely. This is a primary source for researchers, freely available online, not a parenting guide for today.
