Self-help ✦ Penny’s Take
Library of Universal History and Popular Science
Isreal Smith Clare · 2018
48/100
👎 Skip It
Israel Smith Clare's encyclopedic Victorian history set is a genuine historical artifact and freely available in full on the Internet Archive — there is simply no reason to pay for a print-on-demand scan reprint. As scholarship it is outdated and Eurocentric by modern standards, and the image quality on POD versions is reportedly poor. Researchers with a specific interest in Victorian popular historiography should go directly to HathiTrust; everyone else can skip this entirely.
