Pike writes from genuine personal loss and brings warmth and sincerity to her six principles of universal love, which gives the book more heart than most grief guides of its era. But the ecumenical spiritual framework — drawing from multiple traditions rather than a single faith — will satisfy neither traditional Christian readers nor those wanting clinical grief science. Largely out of print and with limited critical documentation, it is a difficult title to recommend broadly.
