Dreher's interviews with actual Soviet-era dissidents give this real weight, and the resistance strategies are urgent and practically minded. But the central comparison — that the West is sliding into 'soft totalitarianism' — is genuinely contested, with some critics calling the case surprisingly weak, so take the thesis with a grain of salt. Adam Verner's narration, though, is excellent, an Earphones Award-caliber performance.
