Tchaikovsky sticks the landing on one of the most ambitious first-contact trilogies in recent science fiction, delivering a genuinely moving and original resolution to the Architects' mystery. Idris Telemmier is a rare chosen-one protagonist who earns his burden rather than simply inheriting it, and the emotional payoff is proportionate to the three-volume investment. Dense politics and some repetition across the trilogy are real costs, but readers who've made it this far will find this a worthy close.
