M is for Mindful
Robin Flanigan found a clever structure here: pair every letter of the alphabet with a mindfulness concept — awareness, compassion, gratitude, respect — and give parents and teachers a natural conversation starter for each one. Heather Jones's nature-based paintings are genuinely lovely, and the dual-audience design means an adult and child can sit with this book together without either feeling like it wasn't made for them. High-profile endorsements from Arun Gandhi and Temple Grandin add real credibility. The honest caveat is that the secular mindfulness framing won't satisfy families looking for explicitly faith-grounded content, and the short verses can only skim the surface of each concept. But as a values-rich shared read, it's a beautiful object and a thoughtful gift.
