A Pulitzer for a reason — Brooks takes the absent father from Little Women and gives him a moral reckoning with war and slavery that's as rich as anything in serious historical fiction, and it deepens rather than cheapens the original. It's heavy, unflinching material best suited to adult listeners ready for real weight, and Richard Easton's narration credit is solid though I couldn't dig up detailed reviews of the performance itself.
