Naomi Hughes takes a genuinely risky premise — a protagonist who has actually done terrible things — and the reviewers indicate she earns it, particularly in how faith and redemption are woven through a fictional religious system rather than grafted on. The self-published status means less editorial polish than a Big Five YA title, and the violence is real, but the emotional ambition here is above average for the genre.
