Don Nardo is a reliable educational author and the cross-cultural sweep here is real — Greek, Norse, African, Native American, Persian, and Indian monster traditions all show up. But that breadth is also the book's limitation: no single tradition gets enough space to become genuinely interesting, and the result reads more like a reference checklist than an engaging exploration. For a classroom shelf it's serviceable; for a young reader who wants to actually get drawn in, there are livelier mythology books that go deeper.
