A detective on 'vacation' getting pulled into small-town murders is a comfortable, well-worn setup, and this one leans into every trope including the bumbling local sheriff. It's serviceable genre mystery, but there's so little outside review coverage that it's hard to vouch for the craft with real confidence.
β¦ Penny’s Take β this is The Review Group’s own editorial assessment. Penny’s analytical review line researched this book from real sources and scored it across the lenses shown below. It’s an honest first-party read β not a page-by-page personal one. The gold β Penny Tested mark is reserved for books Penny reads cover to cover herself.
β Parent note β our reviewers flagged: Genre violence: murder-mystery plot centers on multiple killings and a threat to the protagonist's life; standard for the genre but worth flagging for sensitive readers.. We still scored it 48; these are context for your family, not an automatic skip.
