Series ✦ Penny’s Take
Murder on a Girls' Night Out
Anne George · 2009
84/100
👍 Worth It
Anne George won the Agatha for this debut and earned every bit of it — the sisterly banter between Mary Alice and Mouse is genuinely funny and the Alabama setting feels lived-in rather than decorative. The mystery is solid enough to sustain interest alongside the comedy, and the voice is distinctive in a genre that can feel interchangeable. One of the warmest and most charming cozy debuts of the 1990s, and it still reads as fresh.
