In 1996 this was an essential tool for any fiction writer trying to find a home for their work; in 2026 every submission guideline, contact, and market listed inside is thirty years out of date. The genre overview essays and author interviews retain some historical texture, but for practical use this book has been completely superseded by online resources and current annual editions. Keep it if you are researching mid-1990s publishing history; otherwise pass.
