On Aging

Jean Améry · 1994
82/100
👍 Worth It

Amery refuses every comfortable lie about growing old — no silver linings, no graceful acceptance — and the result is one of the most rigorously honest books on the subject in print. The five essays are dense but beautifully written, and readers who have lived long enough to feel the estrangement he describes will find them almost unbearably apt. Not easy reading, but among the most intellectually serious treatments of aging available in English.
