Derrida at his most applied and his most readable — these two essays on hospitality and forgiveness are compressed to the point of frustration, but the ideas inside them have earned genuine traction in refugee ethics and transitional justice debates. The 'cities of refuge' concept is more urgent now than when he wrote it. Graduate-level prose, but a rewarding 60 pages for anyone serious about political philosophy.
