👍 Worth It

Tom Clancy's second Jack Ryan novel opens with a genuinely gripping scene — Ryan foils a terrorist attack on British royals in broad daylight — and then spends the rest of the book making him and his family pay for it. The IRA splinter group pursuing revenge is a believable threat, the military and intelligence research is characteristically thorough, and the family-in-danger stakes give the thriller real emotional weight. Clancy's moral framing is clear: the terrorists are wrong, the family is worth protecting, and loyalty matters. The content caveats are equally clear: significant violence, including a pregnant woman and child placed in genuine danger, and some profanity. Not for young readers. For adults who enjoy tightly plotted espionage thrillers with a strong pro-family core, this delivers, but it scores here because the content load and some credibility stretches hold it back from a full recommendation.
