Series ✦ Penny’s Take
Prince Otto a Romance
Robert Louis Stevenson · 2013
70/100
👍 Worth It
Stevenson called this his hardest effort, and readers will feel that effort — the prose is careful and layered, the political satire sharp, but the narrative momentum never catches fire the way Treasure Island or Kidnapped does. For Stevenson enthusiasts and students of Victorian fiction it is a worthwhile detour, especially given the free Project Gutenberg availability. Casual readers looking for adventure should start elsewhere in his catalog.
