Principles of Finance
Besley and Brigham built this textbook around an unusually practical goal: giving business students who are not finance majors a rigorous but manageable survey of all three pillars β financial institutions and markets, investments, and corporate finance β in a single volume. The logical progression from foundational concepts through time value of money and risk into capital budgeting makes it well suited to either a one-term or two-term introductory course. The honest caveat is that this is an academic textbook through and through: dry, structured, and not intended for a general reader's shelf. More practically, the 2005 edition is now two decades old, and current market realities, regulations, and tools have evolved considerably. As an introductory survey for business undergraduates with an instructor guiding application to current conditions, it holds up; outside that context, it has limited use.
