The fourth Throne of Glass book is where Celaena fully becomes Aelin, queen of Terrasen, returning to Rifthold to save her cousin from execution and her friend Prince Dorian from demonic possession. Maas expands the world significantly here, introducing characters who become major players in later volumes, and the emotional stakes for dedicated series readers are genuinely high. That said, this book requires a direct content warning: it contains graphic torture and violence, profanity on nearly every page, mature romantic scenes pushing into new-adult territory, references to sexual exploitation, and LGBTQ content. It has been challenged in school libraries for good reason. Worth It for older YA and adult fantasy fans committed to the series — but not appropriate for younger teens, family-sensitive readers, or faith-conservative audiences.
