Bellows was a genuine figure in 19th-century American liberal Protestantism and these sermons carry intellectual ambition, but facsimile reprints of Victorian pulpit oratory ask a lot of contemporary readers. Orthodox Trinitarian readers should also know upfront that Bellows's Unitarian theology departs from traditional Christian doctrine on the nature of Christ. A primary source for specialists; a tough read for everyone else.
