Series ✦ Penny’s Take
Renegade Children
J. N. Chaney · 2019
66/100
👎 Skip It
Within the Renegade Star series this is well-regarded — stakes are rising, the character choices are getting more meaningful, and the Firefly comparisons are not unearned. But it is book eight of sixteen and has virtually no standalone value, which means the score here reflects what a reader outside the series would actually get from picking it up, which is not much. If you are already aboard the series, this is a solid entry; if not, start at book one.
✦ Penny’s Take — this is The Review Group’s own editorial assessment. Penny’s analytical review line researched this book from real sources and scored it across the lenses shown below. It’s an honest first-party read — not a page-by-page personal one. The gold ✓ Penny Tested mark is reserved for books Penny reads cover to cover herself.
⚠ Parent note — our reviewers flagged: moderate language and action violence — not suitable for young children. We still scored it 66; these are context for your family, not an automatic skip.
