Reynolds builds a far-future solar system that feels genuinely inhabited and strange, then drops two sisters into it with a revenge plot that has real emotional stakes — the result is one of the most enjoyable science fiction adventure novels he has written. The Locus Award is well-deserved. The one honest caveat is violence: despite a YA classification and teenage protagonists, the gore and mutilation here are substantial, so parents and sensitive readers should know going in.
